The oval is the more useful shape of the two Marseille pieces — long and shallow rather than deep, which suits bread, grilled vegetables, a side of fish, or anything you want people to reach across the table for. In the natural colourway the reactive glaze settles into a soft white that lets the food do the talking, with a gently wavy rim that gives it a handmade feel.
